It’s An Uphill/Downhill Race For A Good Cause In Camden This Weekend

The Kuller Uphill/Downhill Challenge is set to take place this weekend at the Camden Snow Bowl, kicking off on Sunday morning, at 11.

According to the Facebook Event Page, the event is hosted by both the Camden Snow Bowl and the Ragged Mountain Ski Patrol.

"Got a Spring 2022 in your step? Grab your skis, board, snowshoes, sneakers, sandals -- whatever gets you to the top of the hill and back down again -- for a lively and fun change of season race at the Camden Snow Bowl! Prizes to be determined. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the lodge."

If you're a season pass holder, the cost of registration is just $15 per person. You'll need an extra $5 if you're not.

Started as a fundraiser for the redevelopment project for the Camden Snow Bowl and the Ragged Mountain Recreation Area, and known simply as the Uphill/Downhill Challenge, the first race took place in 2011.

In 2013, organizers changed the name to "The Kuller Uphill/Downhill Challenge" to honor of Jeffrey Kuller, longtime Director of Parks and Recreation and General Manager of the Camden Snow Bowl. Kuller died in 2012 when a tree that he had been working at his home fell on top of him.

Since then, the event usually features folks dressed in everything from traditional winter gear to bathing suits and flip-flops. One year, someone even ran it dressed like a gorilla.

It's really kind of an "anything goes" race, to raise money for a good cause, and honor a man who did many good things for the community of Camden and the Camden Snow Bowl.
