Connect With Nature: Check Out These Bangor Area Bird Walks

A bird walking?

The Penobscot Valley Audubon is gearing up for a busy month of May, with plans to hold 13 Bird Walks throughout the greater Bangor area. The walks are designed to help connect folks with nature and promote environmental awareness, while also providing a fun and educational experience for bird lovers of all ages.

Participants are encouraged to bring rubber boots or waterproof shoes, as wet grass and muddy conditions are possible. In order to ensure the safety of all involved, no pets are allowed on the bird walks.

After each walk, bird enthusiasts are invited to share their photos and stories with the Penobscot Valley Audubon community in the PVC Field Notes wildlife-sharing group on Facebook.

The Penobscot Valley Audubon's mission is to conserve wildlife and habitat by connecting people to nature, through activities that educate and promote greater environmental awareness. The organization offers low-cost or no-cost programs and field trips throughout the year for members and also sponsors conservation and wildlife scholarships in eastern Maine.

• MON, MAY 8 AT 7 AM - Indian Trail Bird Walk - Meet at Penobscot County Conservation Assn., North Main St. in Brewer.
• TUE, MAY 9 AT 7 AM - Bangor City Forest Bird Walk - Meet at the parking lot in Bangor City Forest at the end of Kittredge Rd. in Bangor.
• SAT, MAY 13 AT 8 AM - Fields Pond Bird Walk - Meet at the Fields Pond Audubon Center parking lot in Holden.
• TUE, MAY 16 AT 8 AM - Kenduskeg Stream Trail Bird Walk - Meet in the 2nd parking lot upstream of the intersection of Valley Ave. and Bruce Rd.
• WED, MAY 17 AT 8 AM - Mt Hope Bird Walk - Meet in the parking area inside the State St. entrance.
• FRI, MAY 19 AT 7 AM - Saxl Park Bird Walk - Meet at the Cascade Park parking lot, just off State St.
• SAT, MAY 20 AT 8 AM - Orono Tech Park Bird Walk - Take Godfrey Drive in Orono. Meet in the parking lot behind the building (formerly Nexx-Linx call center) across the road from Black Bear Inn.
• MON, MAY 22 AT 8 AM - Leonard Mills Bird Walk - Meet at the junction of Government Rd and Rt. 178.
• TUE, MAY 23 AT 8 AM - Essex/Little Penjajawoc Bird Walk - Meet in the parking lot at the end of Watchmaker Rd.
• WED, MAY 24 AT 8 AM - West Penjajawoc Bird Walk - Meet at the dead end of Fox Hollow Lane, off Essex St.
• THU, MAY 25 AT 8 AM - University of Maine Bird Walk - Meet up near the Arboretum in the parking lot between the Emera Astronomy Center and the Jordan Observatory (driveway extends beyond the intersection of Rangeley Rd. and Long Rd).
• SAT, MAY 27 AT 8 AM - University of Maine Bike Path (North End) Bird Walk - Meet at Old Town Elementary School, 576 Stillwater Ave. Use the parking lot in front of the school.
• TUE, MAY 30 AT 8 AM - Caribou Bog Bird Walk - Follow Taylor Rd. 0.3 miles from Forest Ave., left on Putnam Rd, (Orono Landfill Access Rd.) Meet at the trailhead parking area in front of the gate.

After all of these nature walks, you will most certainly be able to add a smell or two to this list.
