Some Bangor students stayed home today after an electrical fire prompted officials to close the school temporarily.

The Fire at a Bangor School Was Quickly Contained.

The Bangor School Department announced on its Facebook page Monday morning that classes were canceled for the day at the Abraham Lincoln School. A small electrical fire in the school building earlier in the morning had prompted the closure. Principal Shannon Shaw said in a Facebook post that there was no cause for alarm, as the fire was quickly contained, and no one was hurt.

An Inspection is Underway to Determine the Cause of the Fire.

Principal Shaw said the safety and well-being of the students and staff at Abraham Lincoln School were a priority so it was decided that the school would remain closed for the day. That would allow for a more thorough inspection of the premises and allow time for any necessary repairs to be completed.

The Principal Says Information Will Be Forthcoming About the School's Reopening.

Things like snow days can cause stress for working parents who suddenly have to adjust their childcare plans for the day. Understanding this, Shaw apologized to parents in the Facebook post for the unexpected closure.

Rest assured, we are working diligently to address the situation and will keep you updated on any developments.

She instructed parents to watch their emails and the school department's official channels for updates about when the school will reopen.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
