Two men from Bangor and one from Pennsylvania are facing charges after a drug bust in Brewer.

Where Did the Drug Bust Happen?

It started out as a traffic stop on Betton Street. Brewer Police Officer Michael McFadden pulled a vehicle over just before noon on Wednesday because of a traffic violation. He then discovered that not only was the registration expired but the driver had a suspended license.

Officer McFadden suspected drug activity so he called for backup and a police K9. He was soon joined by Officer Brandon Curtis and Corporal Levi Sewall, but there were no available K9 units in Brewer or Bangor Police Departments.

How Did the Rumford Police Get Involved?

As luck would have it, Rumford Police Department's K-9 Officer Lawrence Briggs was at the Brewer Police Department at that time, attending a drug enforcement training session with his K-9 Niko. The Rumford team went to the Betton Street location and Niko indicated the positive presence of illegal drugs. Officials searched the vehicle and found more than 120 grams of cocaine located in a hidden compartment. More than $1,000 in suspected drug proceeds were also seized.

Who Was Arrested?

Arrested were three occupants of the vehicle:

  • Brendy Flores, 31, of Allentown, Pennsylvania
  • Dashawn Harrington, 33, Bangor, Maine
  • Trevell Colter, 34, Bangor, Maine

All of the suspects were charged with aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs. The charges were elevated to aggravated because of the proximity of Betton Street to the Brewer Waterfront Trail, which is a designated drug-free zone. The three suspects were taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
