Maine State Police are investigating the death of a toddler that stopped breathing at Walmart.

The Child Was 22-Months Old

A 22-month-old child has died in Thomaston. Officials have not released the child's name.

Officials Were Called to the Thomaston Walmart for a Child in Distress

Lieutenant Aaron Turcotte of the State Police says Thomaston Police and Rescue were called to the Thomaston Walmart just before 7:30 on Wednesday for a report of a child that wasn't breathing.

Police are Investigating the Death, Which is Standard Procedure in Maine

The child was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where they were pronounced dead. Thomaston Police contacted the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, who is investigating the circumstances that led up to the child's death, which is protocol in all child deaths in Maine. An autopsy will be conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
