A house fire in Norway was started by devices being used to thaw the home's frozen pipes.

Maine Fire Marshal Investigates House Fire in Norway

No one was hurt in the fire at a home on Everett Drive in Norway, that was reported just before 4 pm on Tuesday. Officials say the homeowners were just returning to the residence when the fire happened.

The Norway Fire Department responded to the scene and encountered heavy fire conditions. Authorities were able to get the fire under control and called the State Fire Marshal's Office to assist them in the investigation into what started the blaze.

Upon inspection of the scene, investigators determined that frozen pipes in the home were being thawed using a combination of heaters and electrical heat tape, which inadvertantly caused the fire.

Electrical heat tape should always be used according to the manufacturer's instructions and authorities say you should inspect it regularly for damage.

Anyone who's unsure about how to thaw their frozen pipes is advised to contact a licensed plumber.
