So here’s the deal...Popeyes is officially open in Augusta.

The new spot opened on May 21st, at 48 Western Avenue, taking over the old Friendly’s location. For locals, that means there’s now an easy place to grab those Popeyes chicken sandwiches, biscuits, fries, and all the usual favorites without having to go out of town.

And while it might feel like a big “new arrival” moment for Central Maine, Popeyes isn’t brand new to the state. There are already a few locations around Maine, including spots in places like South Portland, West Gardiner, and Kennebunk. So this isn’t the first one, but it does bring the chain a bit closer for a lot of people who don’t want to make the drive down south.

Still, new fast food openings always seem to get people talking.

Let’s be real, everyone has that guilty pleasure fast food order they go back to, even if it’s not exactly part of a healthy diet. And if you’ve ever sat in a Chick-fil-A or McDonald’s drive-thru line, you know why people are always showing up for it.

That’s why the Augusta Popeyes has everyone buzzing. If Augusta can support another big-name chain, what does that mean for other Maine cities?

Bangor keeps coming up in those conversations. There’s no news about a Queen City location right now, but people definitely notice when new spots keep popping up in other parts of the state.

For now, Bangor fans will still have to make a bit of a trip, but this Augusta opening definitely adds to the fast-food chatter in Maine.
