Stephen King’s IT Comes to Mount Hope Cemetery in Bangor, Maine

How does a spine-chilling classic movie under the stars sound?

On Wednesday, August 19, at 7:45 p.m., the Bangor Historical Society invites you to a one-of-a-kind movie night after dark at the historic Mount Hope Cemetery in Bangor.

This year’s featured film is Stephen King’s classic horror story, IT. Experience the eerie atmosphere of one of Bangor’s most iconic locations, a place that helped inspire the legendary author’s chilling tales.

The movie will be shown on the field beside the historic cemetery, creating one of the most unique outdoor movie experiences you’ll find anywhere in Maine.

In IT, a group of kids in the small town of Derry discover that something terrifying is happening, children are disappearing, and a sinister clown named Pennywise may be behind it all. The friends, known as the Losers’ Club, must face their fears and band together to fight the evil lurking beneath their town.

Gates open at 6 p.m., and the movie begins at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $15. For those who want to add a little history to their evening, a guided tour of Mount Hope Cemetery will be available before the movie. The tour begins at 6:45 p.m., costs $10, and is limited to 40 guests.

Tickets are expected to go quickly, as this event has sold out in previous years. Member presale begins at noon on Tuesday, July 21, and public ticket sales open at noon on Thursday, July 23.

Guests should enter through the 1048 State Street gate. Free parking and shuttle service will be available from the United Technologies Center, beginning at 6 p.m.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, grab a snack from the concession stand, and settle in for a creepy night under the stars. Please note that outside food and drinks, coolers, and large backpacks are not permitted. The cemetery also has a strict no-alcohol, no-smoking, and no-vaping policy.

For Stephen King fans, or anyone looking for a movie night that’s a little different, this is an experience you won’t want to miss.
