Find A Bargain, Help Out Kids: The Orono-Old Town Kiwanis Auction Is This Weekend!

The Orono-Old Town Kiwanis Club has been around since 1935. And for ninety years, its goal has been to help kids from local communities through donations and services.

As a non-profit, they rely heavily on fundraising and donations. 78 years ago, they came up with what would become a massive auction/yard sale to help bring in money for the cause. The Annual Orono-Old Town Kiwanis Auction & Yard Sale has become something of a tradition now in Eastern Maine; an event that brings in folks from all over, and that everyone looks forward to attending.

Organizers say that this one special weekend of bargains, fun, and friends helps to generate between $30,000 and $60,000, which directly benefits youngsters in surrounding towns.

This year, as in years past, the Orono-Old Town Kiwanis Auction & Yard Sale will take place at the Kiwanis building in Orono, at 168 Forest Avenue.

It will run this coming Friday and Saturday, August 22nd and 23rd, from 3:30 PM to 9 PM.

Featuring everything from housewares and furniture to used books, vehicles, bikes, and toys, this is a rain-or-shine event. Need a new set of dishes? Or a shower stall? Maybe an electric bed or a set of tires?

There's something for everyone. I mean it. If you walk away empty-handed, you've not even tried!

Quick tip: bring some empty bags and make sure you unload your car so there's plenty of space to put everything you'll likely walk away with.

The other great thing about this yearly event is that just as sure as you're likely to find an amazing deal on something you didn't even know you needed, you're just as likely to bump into someone you know. Trust me, this thing drags everyone out of the woodwork! So make sure you have some time on your hands, not just for perusing the items, but to catch up with old friends!
