Maine Based Olympia Sports Sold To Out Of State Company

We've really enjoyed shopping at Olympia Sports in both the Bangor Mall and the Maine Coast Mall in Ellsworth, and hope that we can continue to do so.

It was announced yesterday that the company based in Westbrook had been sold.

A company named JackRabbit specializing in running shoes and apparel has purchased Olympia Sports, and we hear that it will close about half of the Olympia Sports stores currently open.  There will also be layoffs, and those will be phased in with the closings.

According to a WGME TV 13 post about 20 stores here in Maine will close, and "only four will retain the Olympia Sports name."  Stores that will close will do so by January 31st of next year.
