Maine Officials Say Quit Throwing Burning Cigarettes Out The Car Window
Careless smokers are torching our state!
The Maine Department of Transportation and the Maine Department of Public Safety issued a message yesterday "asking for the public's help in making sure smokers extinguish their cigarettes inside of their vehicles."
Sounds like good advice to us.
We've all seen it happened when following other vehicles, a smoke is thrown from a window and hits the pavement in a ball of ash. With the recent warm and dry weather, the dead grass on the side of the road is just waiting to ignite.
The press release goes on to say, "Recent roadside fires have been attributed to lit cigarettes being discarded out of the vehicle's window and onto the roadway where they have rolled into the surrounding grass and brush. Please help to prevent these incidents from occurring by making sure the cigarette is extinguished and not thrown out the window."
