Wildlife officials confirmed the start of spring turkey hunting season will begin as scheduled.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife says Maine's spring turkey hunting season will begin in May. Youth hunters will get a jump start on the season May 2, with the season opening to all on May 4.

With a valid Maine big game or small game hunting license, turkey hunters can purchase a wild turkey permit for $20 for both residents and non-residents. This permit allows turkey hunters to take up to two bearded wild turkeys in the spring, and an additional two turkeys of either sex in the fall.

The spring turkey season runs through June 6.
