New Jersey Man Dies In Motorcycle Crash Involving Moose
Maine State Police say A man from New Jersey died Monday evening after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a moose.
According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss, multiple emergency agencies responded to the accident site. The crash took place about 45 minutes after sunset, near Milo.
"On September 30, 2024, at 7:00 PM, Troop I and Northern Field Troopers responded to a motorcycle vs. moose crash at mile marker 240 southbound in T2 R9. 50-year-old Anand Sreedharan of Princeton, NJ, was traveling southbound when a moose crossed into his lane and was struck by his motorcycle. Sreedharan was ejected from the motorcycle and ultimately succumbed to his injuries."
Moss says the moose also died as a result of the incident. Authorities are still looking into the matter.
Maine Department of Transportation says there have been 161 crashes involving moose on Maine roadways this year. The majority of those crashes took place in May and June, months when moose/vehicle collision numbers rise dramatically.
Moss says of all the moose-related crashes in 2024, two have been fatal.

The Maine DOT says there are a few key things to remember when sharing the roadways with moose, especially from dusk till dawn. The most important ones are to stay alert and always pay attention to the roadways.
"Moose often travel at night when they are most difficult to see in the road."
"Whenever you see a moose - you can bet there are more nearby since they travel in groups."
