A public hearing was held on Wednesday that hopefully make animal abusers think twice before they hurt another animal. The bill labeled  LD 1442 - "An Act to Provide for Court Appointed Advocates for Justice in Animal Cruelty Cases." is also called Franky's Law.

Franky was a dog stolen from his owners in Winter Harbor who was tortured and killed before they threw his remains into the bay.  As fate would have it Franky's body would wash up on the beach of Hancock County District Attorney.

WGME reported, the bill  sponsored by Saco Representative Donna Bailey and is fashioned after a similar law on the books in CT. If passed here in Maine it will allow our courts provide volunteer lawyers and law students to help animals who have suffered abuse prosecute their abusers.
