With the new year comes new $ for those making minimum wage here in Maine.

Beginning January 1st, those working for the minimum will see their hourly pay go from $10 per hour to $11 an hour.  This is part of a change that was implemented when the new law, §664. Minimum wage; overtime rate, took effect in late 2016.

Workers will see the minimum wage increase by another dollar at this time again next year.  In the years following, the minimum wage will increase according to a percentage of the cost of living increase, if any.

The change in wage is good news for those that work for it, but many business owners say that it hurts their bottom line, and that the extra expense is then passed on to consumers.
