If you've ever been to Fairmount Park in Bangor, you've likely seen a line of kids all waiting for their turn to shoot hoops on the Half Court that's on the back end of the field.

According to Bangor Parks and Rec Director, Tracy Willette, the court was installed a little over 10 years ago. The price tag for the project was in the ballpark of about $20,000.

"Adam Moskovitz and his company, ANM Properties, funded and donated a new half basketball court at Fairmount Park.  The work included a concrete slab as well as a tiled FlexCourt outdoor basketball court.  This fantastic donation replaced what was a paved half basketball court that needed repair."

Moskovitz, a transplant to the Bangor area from Florida, said it was made from a very special material.

"It’s a type of plastic polymer mixed in the concrete, so it has give to it, which is less hard on the joints of people playing on it and much more resistant to weather."

But as is the case with most things in Maine, the cold winter temps and snow can take their toll on the ground. And the court started to show some signs of wear and tear.

"A few years back the tiles started popping off. "

Since Moskovitz had donated the court back to the City, Bangor Parks and Rec would be in charge of fixing the issues with the court, so he reached out to the Parks and Rec Director, Tracy Willette.

"I let Tracy know about the problem and that is when he started talks with the manufacturer. "

The good news was that the court had come with a 15-year warranty.

"There was a warranty they conveyed over to the city. It took a while for the manufacturer to respond. We talked again and he said he was waiting on an answer. They finally sent replacement tiles, but since the court was already 8 years old, those tiles eventually wore and the new tiles didn’t really line up with the old ones."

Thanks to Willette's persistence, they finally came up with a better solution than trying to replace just the tiles that were damaged.

"After waiting another year, Flexcourt finally sent over a brand new court ..."

Replaced this week by Bangor Public Works, Moskovitz says it's nice to see the court looking new again.

"It felt good [to be] able to get back to the community then and it still feels good today. I think people have really been receptive and grateful to have a basketball court of that stature. It also renewed my faith in the city to maintain/repair the court moving forward in the future. It’s a win-win for everyone."

Willette says he's also happy to have found a solution to the problem.

"The court is used consistently and has been quite popular in the neighborhood and has attracted users from around the City."
