Hey, whatever it takes to make it through a pandemic, right?  Wow, guess so.

Results of a new survey have been released by DrugAbuse.com, a leading provider of substance abuse treatment resources, and it shows that on average, Mainers consumed 867 alcoholic drinks last year.  Break it out per week, and that's 17 standard drinks per week.

Mainers weren't out of the ordinary though, as 17 drinks per week was the national average across the country for 2020.  Although that # is far above what the CDC defines as "heavy drinking", which is 14 drinks per week for men and 7 per week for women.

If you're concerned or wondering, according to the CDC, "A standard drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer (5% alcohol), 5 ounces of wine (12% alcohol) or 1.5 ounces of liquor (40% alcohol)."

Other information provided to us by DrugAbuse.com tells us that on average, drinkers across America last year spent 112 hours hungover during the pandemic.  Man, that's a lot of aspirin.

Looking through the provided table below, one can see that those in Alaska consumed the most with an average of 27 standard drinks per week during 2020. Comparatively, residents in Hawaii and New Hampshire had just 10 drinks per week – the lowest figure across the United States.
