Penobscot County on Thursday recorded its first death of a resident who had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The death is that of a man in his sixties, state health officials announced Thursday.

In total, there are 91 cases of COVID-19 among Penobscot County residents, as of Thursday. Seventy five of those have recovered. Seventeen people from Penobscot County have been hospitalized at some point in their illness.

Twenty-two of those cases were recorded at Hope House, a homeless shelter in Bangor.

The death recorded in Penobscot County was one of three deaths recorded statewide on Thursday. There have been 69 deaths, mostly among the elderly, recorded statewide.
