As of 10 a.m. this Monday morning, the Maine Department of Transportation had closed the gigantic span between Verona Island and Prospect due to falling ice.

With temperatures approaching 40 degrees today, there was concern of ice falling from the cables above and hitting the pavement with ferocity.  That ice has now fallen. In the abundance of caution, the MDOT had closed the structure that carries Routes 3 & 1 over the Penobscot River FOR 40 MINUTES.

Once again, the Penobscot Narrows Bridge has reopened.
