This week, the SPCA of Hancock County has a very special cat featured as their "Pet Of The Week."

Calcifer, or "Cal" as the folks from the shelter have been calling her, has been through quite a bit since she was brought to the SPCA at the beginning of this year.

Annie Chalmers, a Medical Technician with the SPCA of Hancock County says:

"Calcifer is a shorthaired Torti cat who came to the shelter in early January. She was found as a stray in Connecticut. Her rescuers were able to capture her and bring her to the vet before driving her to our shelter."

The folks who caught Cal found out that she is positive for FIV, which is also called Feline Aids. But Chalmers says it is not something that a future family will have to worry too much about.

"FIV doesn’t require any extra treatments, just extra knowledge. " She recommends researching more about FIV at this site.

Chalmers says Cal is a total love bug who wants nothing more than to snuggle.

"She is a very sweet girl, about two years old. She is good with other cats and a little nervous around dogs. She may take a little bit to learn to trust her human. She loves to be pet and get attention from people she knows. Cal enjoys being snuggled in her cozy blanket."
