Maine's newest national monument could be returned to private ownership. We want to know your thoughts.

On August 24, 2016 President Barack Obama created the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. Roxanne Quimby donated the 87,563 acres of land to the federal government to create the monument.

To say the least, the local reaction to the executive order has been mixed.

Governor Paul LePage has asked President Trump to reverse the order creating the North Woods Monument. It's unclear as to whether a President can lawfully undo an executive order creating national monuments.

LePage wants to see the land returned to private ownership "before economic damage occurs and traditional recreational pursuits are diminished.” The BDN has a copy of the full 2-page letter, here.

What do you think?
