According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department initially fielded the call, which came in just before 7 PM on Friday, October 3rd, as a disturbance of some sort. Commotion was reported at 715 River Road in Standish. Deputies responded and found the body of a dead male inside the house when they arrived, so they called in the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.

"The deceased male was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy. The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Matthew Hamilton of Cumberland County. The cause and manner of death are not being released at this time."

Moss says there are other individuals involved with this situation who have been identified and are cooperating with law enforcement officials.

While authorities are still actively investigating the situation, they don't believe the public is in danger at this time.

Hamilton had been living in several different areas within Cumberland County lately. Moss says more information will be released in the future, when it becomes available.
