State Police Investigate Deadly Turnpike Crash That Took Place Early Thursday AM
An early morning crash that happened along the border of Maine killed a man from New Hampshire. Authorities are looking into the matter.
State Police Spokesperson, Shannon Moss, says State Troopers arrived at the scene just after 1:00 Thursday morning to find one of the drivers involved had not survived the ordeal.
Moss said two-vehicle crash took place along the southbound lane of the Piscataqua River Bridge, while traffic was already at a stand still due to a separate issue on the New Hampshire side of things.
"The initial investigation indicates that traffic had stopped on the Maine/New Hampshire border due to a crash that had occurred in New Hampshire. A box truck was stopped in traffic on the Maine side of the bridge when a Toyota Camry driven by 41-year-old Jacob Wolterbeek of Portsmouth, New Hampshire crashed into the rear of the box truck. Wolterbeek was pronounced deceased on scene. Southbound lanes were shut down for several hours."
Moss says the road was re-opened a short while later.
Authorities are still investigating.
