Stillwater River Trail Turns On Their Lights
This is the 5th year that the town of Orono, with help from some local sponsors, has created a great little holiday lights trail that you can hop out of your car and explore.
Volunteers have been working hard for months, clearing the trail and prepping lights and displays.

And now they're ready!
The Stillwater River Trail, presented by the University Credit Union, officially opened last weekend.
Locate at 92 Bennoch Road, the trail will be open from 4 PM to 9 PM nights for the holiday season through December 31st.
Last year, all that work and effort was short-lived as nature didn't want to cooperate. Heavy rains and high winds flooded the display right after the opening weekend. Hopefully this year the weather will cooperate a little better.

If you do plan to go visit, there are some things organizers would like you to know when you visit, according to their Facebook Page.
For instance, a large portion of the lights along the trail are on private property, so they ask that you stay on the main trail.
Also, while the displays are big and beautiful, they're best enjoyed with the eyes, and not the full body.
"Do not climb on, hang off, or try to wrangle up the lights or displays. It is not cute and you will likely damage them."
"This is a walk thru event on a nature trail. Mother Nature determines the terrain. Please be mindful that it could be icy, snowy, muddy, wet, etc. depending on what type of weather we are having."
"We do our best, along with the Town of Orono to make the walk as smooth and safe as possible but some elements are simply beyond our control. Please be safe and wear appropriate footwear ."
If weather permits, and you get a chance to check this light display out, it's a real treat. Almost every year since it's opened, at least one luck couple has even gotten engaged there.
Enjoy!
