Preparations Begin To Light Up Popular Stillwater River Walk
It's become a holiday tradition for many in Eastern Maine, and the folks in charge of putting it together, are getting a jump on this year's Stillwater River Trail.
With lights, decorations and even at times hot chocolate and snacks, the trail, which runs riverside, has been the site of many a Christmas Card picture and engagement opportunity.
The display came about in 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic forced folks to social distance, and kept many for gathering for fun holiday activities, due to fear of getting sick.

This outside lights display offered people a place where they could be outside, and still apart, but also enjoy something that felt festive, when so many things just did not.
Thankfully, they have kept the tradition going, and expanding, adding new displays and branching out into an even bigger festive footprint along the water.
They did have some hiccups last year, thanks to Mother Nature. The super soggy winter we had led to the trail being flooded for a good part of the holiday season, which meant to keep folks safe, they had to shut it down for a bit till the waters receded.

But this year they are back, having already started months in advance to plan and set up for this year's flocks of light-admirers.
According to the Stillwater River Trail Little Free Library #42955 Facebook Page, opening weekend is still a little while away.
"The lights feel a lot different in the fall but they are magical nonetheless.
We’ve started prep earlier this year to bring you the best year yet. We can’t wait for the big unveiling December 6! "
They say this year's lights will be presented by University Credit Union.
You can access the Stillwater River Trail via the Bennoch Road in Orono. There's parking down by Brown's Beach.
It's recommended you dress for the elements, both on your body and on your feet. It can be a little chilly, and sometimes a little muddy and slick in some spots, but it's totally worth it!
