Maine Sheriffs Collect ‘Basic Needs’ Items For Upcoming Holiday Season
Cold weather is fast approaching, and folks in Maine are bracing for an increase in heating costs and a decrease in their wallets due to holiday spending.
Winter can be challenging for many Mainers, and the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office wants to ensure that people in Penobscot County who could use assistance with getting the basics like food, water, clothing, and shelter, get the help they need.
"Many wonderful groups and individuals devise creative ways to support those in need. The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to addressing BASIC NEEDS. Food, clothing, healthcare products, and shelter are essential components of these needs. Our office will continue this mission throughout the fall and winter seasons, but we cannot succeed without the help of our community."
Penobscot County Sheriff Troy Morton says the department is putting together a Basic Needs Drive so they can put some Secret Santa bags together for those in need. They are accepting donations from businesses and individuals who want to help in their efforts.
He says any group, organization, or individual interested in contributing to the cause can reach out to him directly by emailing him at tmorton@penobscot-sheriff.net or by calling (207) 947-4585. You can also reach the Sheriff's Department through their app.
