The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office says the situation stemmed from a domestic violence incident that took place last week.

"On Friday, November 29th, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported incident of domestic violence in the town of Corinth. The suspect allegedly fired several shots at the residence before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured during the shooting."

The Sherrif's Department said the suspect, 37-year-old Christopher Cunningham of Corinth, took off before authorities could speak with him, so they issued a warrant for his arrest. It was initially believed that Cunningham had left Penobscot County, but by Monday, Sheriff's Deputies had tracked him to a home in Glenburn on Route 222.

The Deputies called in some assistance from the Hermon, Levant, and Glenburn Fire Departments, along with the Maine Forest Service, who aided in the search for Cunningham with the help of their helicopter. During the search, a person was seen trying to flee the house from a back exit. Deputies managed to catch up with that individual who confirmed that Cunningham was indeed inside the house. This account was later backed up when they apprehended another person who tried to flee the home.

Following the confirmation that he was inside, authorities blocked off the road, for the public's safety, and with a search warrant, and the aid of the Main State Police Tactical Team, managed to get Cunnigham to come out of the home at which point they arrested him and took him to jail.

He's being charged with Domestic Violence, Possession Of A Firearm, and Reckless Conduct.
