The Umbrellas Are Coming Back To Bangor
Early last summer, the Bangor City Council approved the installation of a Mary Poppins-inspired art exhibit called "Umbrella Sky". The umbrellas were hung along Cross St., which connects Main Street and Colombia Street.
The exhibit is similar to others in places all over the world, including Bahrain, Portugal, and France. It was designed to provide a pop of color and an Instagram-worthy backdrop to that section of the City while inviting foot traffic into a less frequently traveled area of the city.

Over the course of the summer and fall, the umbrellas sustained some damage, thanks to a number of wind storms.
But they have since been repaired, and not that snow is no longer a threat, they're about to return to their spots above the street.
Executive Director of the Downtown Bangor Partnership, Betsy Lundy, says folks can plan to see the umbrellas up Downtown shortly.
"Umbrellas are expected to go up next week along with all the other amenities associated with them. "

Lundy says that folks should not worry about the umbrellas getting damaged, as this had been accounted for and was part of the plan from the beginning.
"Some of the umbrellas are bound to be damaged in weather-related incidents and our contractor is planning to fix them once a month."
"Interestingly enough, I reached out to two other cities that have Umbrella Sky to see if they also get damaged by wind and they said of course! They seemed to find it kind of ridiculous that the response to ours getting damaged is even an issue. Miami actually laughed at that idea. They said that when some are damaged, people just take pictures under the perfect section."
So keep an eye on the sky next week, when you're in Downtown Bangor, and expect to see that pop of color soon!
