What were they doing in the middle of the rocks and cold rapids on a Monday afternoon? Who knows? But folks had to come all the way from Cape Cod to rescue them.

Three University of Maine students in a boat found themselves mired in the rocks within the Penobscot River yesterday afternoon. Eventually, help was summoned, and a local rescue crews made their way to the scene. A game warden attempted rescue, but found himself stranded within the same boat as the students.

A helicopter rescue team from a U.S. Coast Guard base in Massachusetts was called in and everyone was rescued from the Penobscot, and then transported to Bangor to be checked out.

Yup, one doesn't see this everyday this far inland.
