A Unity man has been arrested in connection with one of two recent fires at a mobile home.

38-year-old Derek Creasy is charged with Arson and Attempted Murder for a fire at 30 Turner Court in Unity on December 22rd. This was the first of two fires reported at the same address, within a week. The fire on December 26th destroyed the residence. One person, who was in the home at the time of the first fire, was able to escape.

Fire investigators have been in Unity since the weekend, investigating these two fires, and also a fire that broke out December 28th at the United Methodist Church on Depot Street. No one was hurt in that fire that significantly damaged the nearly 180-year-old structure. Firefighters were able to rescue a 150-year-old Bible that was inside the church. The second mobile home fire and the church fire remain under investigation.

Creasy was arrested after investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office, Deputies from the Waldo County Sheriff's Office, and Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms executed a search warrant at his apartment house, 369 School Street in Unity. They also searched and secured a 2009 Toyota Camry, which was transported to Augusta for further examination.

Anyone with information about these fires is asked to contact Sergeant Joel Davis at 207-624-7076.
