This is not a quiz, but most would not know the price of a first class U.S. Postal Service stamp. Me included.

The prices went up yesterday. The forever stamps, which don’t say how much they cost on the stamp which is probably why most don’t know the price, went up from 60 cents to 63 cents. That and the fact we just don't mail things like we once did.

Inflation is the reason given for the increase.

The last increase in price was July of 2022 when the cost went to 60 cents from 58 cents which the price had been since August 2021

But beginning this year, the Postal Regulatory Commission who determine costs of stamps will implement price changes twice per year. Once in January, and again in July of each year going forward.

The amount of first class mail must be down considerable since the good old days, but the USPS says they are on target to  achieve the financial stability sought by its Delivering for America 10-year plan.

There is Good News too

The price of Priority Mail retail products is decreasing – which include flat rate boxes and envelopes.

And no price increases will be made for Parcel Select Ground or USPS Connect Local shipping services, single-piece letters or flat additional-ounce prices.

United States Postal Service also announced new Forever stamps this year featuring Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and author Toni Morrison and others.

For stamp collectors here are all the 2023 new stamp releases.

Forever stamps can be purchased at current cost and used forever of course, but the USPS also warned of counterfeit third party wholesalers online sellers selling stamps discounted up to 50 per cent. Avoid the scam.

Here the graph of USPS costs effective yesterday.
