Wells Police say one man is dead and another hospitalized, both due to gunshot wounds.

The incident was reported just after 3:30 on Sunday afternoon. Wells Police responded  to a report of a shooting at 36 Appletree Lane, with assistance from the Ogunquit Police Department.

Officials say while police were making their way to the scene, Shaun Simmons, 57 of Wells, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An initial investigation suggests that Simmons shot William Ness, 71 of Wells in the chest, before shooting himself. Ness was transported by Wells Emergency Medical Services to the Sanford Regional Airport, where he was flown by LifeFlight of Maine to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

The case remains under investigation by the Wells Police Department, with assistance from the Maine State Police.
