Although deer hunting seems alive and well in Maine places to get guns maybe on the decline.  Van Raymond’s announced their retirement from the business recently and now Dick’s Sporting Goods looks as if they to will be pulling hunting supplies from their shelves.  Usatoday.com  has reported that in many locations the sporting goods giant has decide to pull all hunting related items including  guns, sights, bows, arrows citing poor sales performance as the reason. Word on the street is that they intend to expand other sports equipment such as soccer and baseball expanding football.

The news outlets says that as for now only 10 of the 732 Dick's stores have removed everything hunting related, none of those stores are in Maine. I called the Bangor Mall store and  was told so far they have received no word of any reduction on those departments.  That said, the CEO, Edward Stack has indicated that he may extend that across all stores.
