Acadia’s Park Loop Road To Close This Sunday
It's that time of the year again.
Every December 1st, the Park Loop Road within Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island officially closes to "motorized vehicles" for the year, and this year is no different.
All motorized vehicles, with the exception of snowmobiles, will be banned from the Park Loop Road beginning this Sunday, until further notice.
The Road remains open to walkers, hikers, bikers, skiers, roller skaters, and boarders. Those on the Park Loop Road should be aware of Park service vehicles that will continue to use the Road.
The two-mile section from the Sand Beach entrance station to Otter Cliff Road (accessible via Schooner Head Road in Bar Harbor) and the Jordan Pond area (accessible via Jordan Pond Road in Seal Harbor), will remain open to motorized traffic, according to an official press release. Although this section may be closed as well in very bad weather.
Acadia National Park alerts can be monitored HERE. Official information during the cold months can be obtained at the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce at the corner of Main and Cottage Streets in Bar Harbor.
Remember, the annual Acadia National Park pass goes on sale at almost half-price during the month of December. Find more information about that HERE.
