Amtrak Downeaster Train 682 had departed Brunswick, Maine, earlier today before hitting a man trespassing on the tracks in Massachusetts.

Emergency crews responded to an area by Inman Street in Lawrence around 10:30 this morning, according to NECN.com.  The man was pronounced dead where the collision occurred.  His identity and age have not been released at this point.

Eventually, alternate transportation was provided to get the 157 passengers aboard the Downeaster to their destinations.

The popular Amtrak Downeaster departs Maine five times daily for Boston.  Ridership aboard the Downeaster set a record in 2019, with 574 404 passengers, an 8% increase from 2018, according to the Portland Press Herald.
