Check Out This Classic 80s Movie On The Big Screen In Bangor
For those of us who grew up in the 1980s, there are a handful of movies that defined our childhood. But none captured both the spirit of the underdog, the benefit of teamwork, and the essence of an unfettered imagination quite like the 1985 classic, "The Goonies".
It's one of those movies from my youth that I couldn't wait to share with my kids when they were old enough to watch it.
And while it's true, that you can rent it right off of Amazon Prime and check it out in the comfort of your own home, there's something about the idea of watching it up on the big screen, in a space with a bunch of other Goonies fans that seems like a great memory in the making!
Thanks to the folks at Penobscot Theatre, watching "The Goonies" on the big screen will be something we can all do very soon, as the PTC celebrates its 50th year of entertaining Bangor in this landmark season.
On Wednesday, May 1st, The Bangor Opera House, the home of the Penobscot Theatre, will transform from stage to cinema as they set up to watch the movie on the big screen!
"Get your tickets at the box office, grab popcorn and candy then settle in to watch 1985’s The Goonies! The Goonies is about a band of adventurous kids who take on the might of a property-developing company that plans to destroy their home to build a country club. When the children discover an old pirate map in the attic, they follow it into an underground cavern in search of lost treasure but come up against plenty of dangerous obstacles along the way."
There's no set price for the tickets, as movie nights are part of PCT's "Pay What You Wish" program, but they will be taking donations at the door that evening.
The movie runs just under 2 hours, so you should be able to bring the kids and make it home in time for bed.
