No, The Cops In Clinton, Maine Won’t Be Livestreaming On Meta! April Fools!
I'm always a fan of when agencies who spend a great deal of time doing serious work, show their lighter side.
Humor is one of those fantastic coping mechanism that help keep us from sinking to deep into the muck that life can bring about.
Some of the funniest folks I know are first responders. They kind of have to be to deal with what they see, day in and day out.
And what better way to flex that funny than with a great April Fool's Day Prank.
If you're not already following the folks at the Clinton Police Department on social media, do yourself a favor and fix that.
Along with news about what's going on or not going on in town (depending on who they've managed to put behind bars) they have a wicked sense of humor. Their posts have made me chuckle on more than one occasion and today was no different.
They were excitedly touting some upcoming alterations to how they conduct business on the force, using bodycams to livestream on social media...(a joke.) And I do so much enjoy a funny prank!
They posted on their Clinton Maine Police Department Facebook Page, news of the 'new changes!'
"We understand not everyone wants to be a star, but public safety and accountability are top priorities. Officers will be trained to narrate their patrols, kind of like a mix between “Cops” and your favorite YouTube vlogger.
Here’s what you can expect:
Live narration from your favorite officers (think “Cops” meets Bob Ross…but with more paperwork). React buttons so you can laugh, cry, or get irrationally angry at how someone parallel parks. Bonus footage of K9 Hondo eating hot dogs when the streets are quiet."
The post is the brainchild of Public Information Officer Mike Conners with the Clinton PD, and he says the reactions to the post have been varied.
"The reactions have been anything from “not with my tax dollars” to “I want to know Sgt. Smith’ skin care routine” to the boring but always appreciated “great idea”. We also have been told we created the next big trend and should go on national tv with it but I think we would have a hard time competing with Dan Abram’s and On Patrol Live."
The comment section of this post is worth a skim, too.
One person wrote "Yes, I’m quitting my job and watching it full-time!"
Another voice her concern about how these 'changes' would impact her hard earned money.
"How much will this cost taxpayers? Will this affect the transfer station or the town office?"
To which Conners jokingly replied "The selectman haven’t approved it yet fully but we will probably have to get rid of the Transfer Station to fund it."
And a third person got involved, offering up their support for the switch.
"This is literally a better idea for social media/tv than anything that has come out in the last decade. I know this is a hilarious post, but I am 100% serious in saying an investment in such a show would yield huge returns. "
Conners says he'll keep going along with the prank, at least until the end of the day, or if there is a need to be serious."
"Probably until people start complaining to the Town Manager (or as I refer to him as 'TM') that in order to fund this, we will have to defund the town Transfer Station and he (TM) makes me come clean (I enjoy being employed)."
Keep up the good and entertaining work, Conners and crew. And thanks for the laugh on this April Fool's Day!
