For the first time in 17 years the federal government has officially shut down.  The new fiscal year has begun and lawmakers are at a political stalemate as to how to get the country up and running again.

The U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Military will continue to operate.  But non-essential services like the National Park Service is now without operating funds, meaning Acadia National Park has closed its gates.

There's no word yet when an agreement will be reached.
