Tonight’s mystery artist’s have a hit with an interesting history, the song was originally intended for Martha and The Vandellas, and has been covered by the Isley Brothers, Jermaine Jackson and tonight’s featured band.  Think you know who they are or the popular song??

Oddly enough Martha and the Vandellas never released the song. Motown's Kim Weston did the first release.  After that the long list of fan and remakes was found on Wikipedia and the song beloved by so many was ‘Take Me In Your Arms’. The Doobie Brother's really felt it was an honor to be trusted to record a Motown hit calling it a dream come true. Skunk Baxter is quotes saying:

"That song was like a dream come true for us. Every musician I've ever known has at some point wanted to achieve Motown's technically slick soul sound - it's so dynamic. We sat down to try to duplicate it, and to see if our version could emerge as a successful single." Band mate Patrick Simmons said, "At first the band sounded like the Grateful Dead doing the Doing the Four Tops, but gradually it came together quite accurately."

Here they are with the song they made into the biggest hit.

Here is the original.
