A Madawaska teen died by electrocution after a truck he was riding in hit a utility pole.

Curtis Levesque, 19, of Madawaska died at the scene of the crash in Frenchville.

What Happened?

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says it was just after midnight Friday morning when State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Airport Road, The initial investigation into the crash indicates that a Ford F-150 driven by Landon Ouellette, 20, of Madawaska was traveling west on Airport Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The pickup went off the roadway and struck a utility pole, causing power lines to fall. Levesque was a passenger in that pickup truck.

Ouellette and Levesque were able to get out of the vehicle on their own. After exiting the truck, however, Levesque started walking back to the vehicle when he tripped on a downed power line and was electrocuted. In the process of trying to help Levesque, Mr. Ouellette also received an electric shock and suffered minor injuries.

Members of the Frenchville Fire Department and Madawaska Ambulance Service rendered aid to Levesque at the scene but he died as a result of his injuries. Ouelette was treated at Northern Maine Medical Center.

Maine State Police say speed and icy road conditions are considered to be factors in this crash, which remains under investigation.
