
30 Year Old Madison Man Arrested After Allegedly Breaking Into Middle School To Steal Stuff
A man from Madison learned a hard lesson in why we don't take things that don't belong to us.

According to Somerset County Sheriff, Dale Lancastor, 30-year-old Adam Nichols was arrested and charged with Burglary, Aggravated Criminal Mischief, and Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer, following an incident that occurred at a local Middle School Tuesday evening.
The Somerset County Police School Resource Deputy, Mike Pike, was called to Madison Middle School at bright and early at 6:30 AM on Tuesday for a report that someone had broken into the Main Street building and stolen some items.
"Deputy Pike responded and found the school had been broken into through a window in one of the classrooms. Extensive damage was done to the window, and several items were found to be missing."
With the help of two more Deputies, Cole and Estabrook, Pike and company were able to identify a suspect, Adam Nichols of Madison, and make contact with the individual.
"Nichols admitted to breaking into the school. The majority of the stolen property was recovered. The investigation is ongoing to recover the remaining stolen property."
Some of the items Nichols allegedly stole were of high value, and the damage that was done breaking into the school was so extensive that the charges were elevated in this case.

Nichols was taken to the Somerset County Jail, where he will remain until his first scheduled appearance in criminal court.

His bail has been set at $250, with a condition that he participates in a supervised program called the Somerset County Community Corrections Program. This pilot program was initiated by Sheriff Lancaster in Somerset County in 2021. The aim of the program, according to online sources, is to "address the needs of people with substance use disorders, specifically opiate use disorder.
Nichols' initial court appearance is scheduled for the morning of August 5th.
