One person is dead, and another is sought by the police after a crash on I-95 in Clinton.

Clinton Maine Crash on I-95 Slowed Traffic for Hours

Officials have not released the name of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.

The crash happened at approximately 7:00 Tuesday morning near mile marker 138.

When the police first arrived on the scene, they believed the single-vehicle crash of a GMC Savana rental van had happened in the southbound lane.

Further investigation determined the van left the northbound lane, entered the ditch , and then became airborne over the median crossover, before striking a tree.

Troopers located a passenger who had suffered severe injuries and began life-saving measures.The passenger, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital, where they died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Witnesses told authorities that a male driver had exited the van and ran into the woods before Troopers arrived.

He's described as wearing dark clothes and carrying a dark backpack.

Maine State Police Seek One Person After a Crash on I-95 in Clinton

Troopers searched most of the day, with help from a State Police K-9 unit and the Airwing, but the driver remains at large.

Maine State Police say residents should not approach the suspect.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or believes they have information about the driver is urged to contact the State Police Barracks in Bangor at 207-973-3700.
