Did You Lose A Class Ring In Old Town Decades Ago? Is This It?
The search is on for the owner of a ring that was found 2 decades ago in a field in Old Town.
"I have carried it in my purse, my car, it was in my jewelry box for a bit, and the last 5 or so years it has been in my desk at work."
Dwan Anderson has been peppering social media lately, trying to locate the owner of a ring her mom found in a field near her childhood home about twenty years ago.
"When my daughter was around 5-6 years old (she is now 25) my mother would take her to watch the kids play soccer in the field beside the middle school in Old Town because it was right by her house. My daughter grew up to play soccer, basketball, and tennis through school. Always loved sports. They are actually the ones that found it in the field there beside Leonard Middle School."
It's a unique ring, both in color, size, and structure.
"One side says Bree Ana and the other says Wildcats… The date says 1998 so if that was the graduation year the person would be around 44."
Anserson's mom hung on to the ring for many years, hoping to reunite it with its owner.
"I’m not sure how long my Mom had it but one day, years later I’m guessing, she was giving me one of her rings to take to have done work done. She mentioned then this was the ring [they] found in the field and she never was able to find the owner. I said I would take it and see if I posted it on social media if someone would recognize it. I did post it on Facebook initially."
"Back then there were not all of the Facebook groups we have today. Over the years every time I came across it, I would post about it."
"I had someone look at it with a magnifier today and he saw some initials on the inside of the band."
On one side it reads, B A B, and on the other, HJ-TT.
"Last week when I decided to post again it was because my co-worker found an earring on the floor of her office and was asking everyone if it was theirs. She mentioned to me that she hates 'throwing stuff like this away cause she knows someone has the other one.' That reminded me of the ring and prompted me to take the ring out of the drawer and tell her that I understood because I’d carried this ring for between 10-15 years. Maybe more?"
"I’m hoping this story ends with finding who it belongs to and them having that memory of losing the ring and hopefully putting a smile on their face that it has made its way back to them all of these years later. I’ve carried it for so long that I feel I have no other option but to find the owner!"
Anderson says she's tried to do some internet sleuthing on her own, to track down where the ring may have come from, and has even reached out to some potential leads.
"I’ve messaged some people on Facebook that I found in a Google search from a Presque Isle class reunion. None of them have seen the messages as of now. I messaged a lady with the name Bree who graduated from Presque Isle and looked to be around the age of a 1998 graduate. Funny coincidence, that was my graduation year also. She also hasn’t seen my messages. I also emailed the guidance counselor in Presque Isle to see if they could confirm the ring was from there. I figured at the least I could mail it to the school and someone may know someone. Still no response from that email either."
Anderson is hoping someone reading this might recognize the ring, or maybe even the school it came from, so she can narrow her search a bit.
"I’ve had this ring so long and had no luck over the years. Would really like to return it."
