Maine has a long and rich history of farming.

Once a year, for the past 36 years, farms across the state of Maine open their doors to the public and give folks a chance to get an up-close-and-personal look at how their food, plants, flowers, and even some of their fiber (like wool) is grown and harvested.

Maine Open Farm Day is taking place this weekend, July 26th and 27th.

This is an opportunity to meet your local farmers, and learn all about farming in New England.

The event takes place, much like farming, regardless of what Mother Nature is doing, so pack and dress appropriately.

"Dress for the outdoors, follow signs and designated areas, and don’t forget to ask questions; farmers love to share their knowledge."

The best way to find out which local farms are participating, so you can map out and plan your visit, is by clicking here.

"There are approximately 90 farms participating, and sites to visit in all 16 counties. 23 sites are open on Saturday."

Organizers encourage folks to check on social media for any updates each individual farm may have, before making the trip out, in case there are any unplanned changes to the schedule.
