Hey, you have to do what ya gotta do.

Last week a man in Southborough, MA, looked out his back window only to see  4 coyotes surrounding his wife and their dog.  This small pack of coyotes didn't seem to be intimidated by the man's wife or their 85 lbs. shepard mix dog, but, they were very concerned when the homeowner busted out of the back door with a broom.

The coyotes scattered, according to the Southborough Police Department.

According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, there are about 12,000 coyotes living here in Maine.  The average coyote weighs about 30 to 35 pounds.

Coyotes eat small animals along with garbage, pet food, small livestock, stuff from your garden and of course, chickens. The mostly hunt at night.

As with anything, coyotes are protective of their young, and when they feel they're competing for food, may become very agressive.

To date, there have been no coyote attacks on humans here in Maine.

But remember, always have a broom available just in case.
