Chili cheese dog, anyone?

It was quite a sight during a quiet Christmas night on High Street in Ellsworth, as the brand new Dairy Queen with it's California colors lit up the sky.  Yes Virginia, there is a Dairy Queen once again in Ellsworth, and according to a recent post of Facebook, opening day is soon!

It's been a while since the old Dairy Queen closed, that once stood at 216 High Street where the UPS Store is now.  Three or four years ago there were news stories that a new DQ would be built in the parking lot next to Cadillac Mountain Sports, even further up High Street towards the center of the city. But now, it looks like fruition is near, as the lights are on at the Dairy Queen Grill & Chill, at 265 High Street, where Dow Pontiac once stood next to McDonalds.

The owner of the new restaurant also owns the DQ on Wilson Street in Brewer, and that place closes down for the winter.  But, this is a Dairy Queen Grill & Chill, with indoor seating, so we presume it will be open year-round.  Here you'll be able to order up things like burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries and chili cheese dogs. For a full menu, go here.

The Ellsworth location has been currently advertising for new employees, with a starting wage of $11 per hour.
