Runway Closed Briefly At Bangor International Airport Saturday Amid Safety Concerns
A runway at Bangor International Airport was closed shortly after 2 PM Saturday, following a safety concern, Airport officials say.
According to Sergeant Jason McAmbley, Public Information Officer with the Bangor Police Department:
"Several flights, including one commercial flight, were diverted from Bangor International Airport on Saturday afternoon after a person called and made threats against the airport.
The airport buildings, runways, and surrounding properties were searched and found to be safe.
Bangor Police and other agencies are investigating the source of the threats. This remains an open and active investigation."
We're told the flights that were diverted, ended up going to Portland, with one able to return when the runway re-opened about an hour later.
