Shocking Photo Shows the Amount of Ticks Collected from One Deer [PHOTO]
Going hunting? Might want to keep this picture in mind when you bring home your prize:
Jennifer Struble Russell of Illinois posted about her brother getting a deer and also the "fallout" that comes along with bringing your deer home from your hunt. Mind you this is from Illinois, but, would this really surprise you to see this come off of a Maine deer? Probably not.
Ok people... My brother got a deer..so being obsessed with ticks I ran down there with my Ziploc & gloves. I found one just crawling on the bed of the Polaris. Once they got it hung..I kept picking and combing. Got home & counted 43 ticks in the bag off 1 deer!!!! I excitedly messaged my friend from the U of IL Holly Tuten and felt something...I HAD 1 CRAWLING ON MY NECK!
The post goes on as a "public service announcement" about keeping yourself safe from tick bites and potential Lyme Disease transmission:
So this now turns into your public service announcement!!
If you get a deer and hang it in your shed or garage...as soon as that deers blood starts cooling...TICKS DROP OFF... ALIVE....and are now crawling around said structure waiting for their next blood meal... I had Aaron Struble put a sheet down under the deer that I sprayed with Permetherin and we reuse it. So if a tick falls on the sheet it will die.
So wear clothes treated in Permetherin. If you are going to collect ticks WEAR gloves..there is always a risk touch these nasty little creatures.
And ALWAYS check for ticks!!!
Why is this lady so passionate about ticks? Well, it turns out her daughter has been ill and struggled, assummingly from a tick bite disease transmission, and is a part of tick research for the University of Illinois.
LET THIS PICTURE BE A REMINDER OF WHAT IS OUT IN THE WOODS AND BE CAREFUL BRINGING THE WOODS BACK HOME!
