WATCH As This Maine Built Navy Stealth Destroyer Hits The Water [VIDEO]
Hey Ma, what the heck is that?
Wow, now here's something that you don't see everyday. A Zumwalt-class destroyer sailing down the Kennebec River and into the open waters off Phippsburg for a day of "sea trials", which happened just yesterday.
The 610-foot-long technically advanced ship will eventually be named USS Michael Monsoor, to memorialize Navy Seal Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Monsoor, who died while shielding others from a tossed grenade in Iraq in 2006. This is the second Zumwalt destroyer built for the U.S Navy at Bath Iron Works.
Yesterday it gave a few people gathered on the shore quite the thrill as it was escorted into the open waters of the Gulf Of Maine.
