Crews from at least 8 different fire departments, as far away as Dedham and Bar Harbor, battled a house fire yesterday afternoon on Oak Street in Ellsworth.

The fire of unknown origin within an apartment house at 65 Oak Street that four families were living in was severely damaged.  The American Red Cross was there to assist those that lived in the structure.  The State Fire Marshall's Office was called in to investigate how the fire started.

Busy traffic on well travelled Oak Street, the street between High and outer State, was rerouted down Main Street and elsewhere during rush hour.

Thank you so much to all the responders to yesterday's fire, and also to those agencies assisting the tenants that lived in the house.
